Here is another situation I have been pondering...
A child is very angry with her father. He and her mother separated long ago, and he was never there for his daughter. Perhaps he struggled with mental illness, addiction, or other issues that made his daughter write him off for good. She grows up to have a very fulfilling life without him. He regrets his actions until the day he dies, wishing that he had been more a part of her life. He dreams of being able to make it up to her, and be the father he's always wanted to be, and that she has always deserved.
When his daughter dies, what will their relationship be in Heaven? He may want to fulfill his father fantasy, but what about what she wants? The easy answer is she would want to be his daughter again, but would she? Would you? Do we change who we are just because we are in Heaven?

Exactly. But how will this work when people probably expect that they would each get their dreams fulfilled? I am stuck. What separates Heaven as a setting for interpersonal conflict from what we deal with on Earth? Would the removal of physical stressors and the fact of eternity change these conflicts between people? Would people eventually learn to forgive as they "mature" spiritually?
I think that the very conflict you pose is the basis for a full story. It creates an interesting tension between their needs, and perhaps heaven is actually about finally learning to balance other people's needs with your own.
I think this is the kind of story that would do well for older children. You could create an interesting "world" with all the cool different things kids love to hear about (ex: Every Flavour Beans in HP) but the central story would be the conflict between their two heavens.
Exactly! Kids LOVE things to be "perfect," which will be fun to create...and yet, life will not be exactly perfect, will it? It will require balance, forgiveness, and maturity just like here on Earth!
